Book of Autumns
Rose Mason stands at the edge of everything she’s ever wanted. A good job, an apartment in the city, a life of comfort and luxury. But when her stoic grandmother dies, she inherits the family home, and the memories bound in its rooms. It is a simple matter to sell the property, but there is something that calls her there for one last visit before she lets it go.
But the women of her family, however long departed are not willing to give her up so easily. A shared diary remains hidden in the house, and it waits for Rose’s hand to record her own history, whether heartbreak or the love they each, in their turn, had wanted.
Short Stories
Like so many writers, I love a short story - the study of plot and character, made compact - sometimes very compact - into the space of a thousand words.
These stories are dark, or sad - or both. Women’s stories - though not the soft fairy tales I learned as a young girl. ‘Moist’ is a story of innocence stolen - take care with reading it, though it is not graphic, it is clear - and supernatural feminine rage and vengeance. ‘Young Man’s Azure’ tells the story of a milestone that marks the end of childhood, changing both mother and child, and ‘Love Spell’ is what happens when love lives past death - a dance remembered, repeated, year after year.
